As a graduate student at UCSD, Eli focused on security studies and US foreign policy with an eye toward Northeast Asia. He was especially interested in the juncture between domestic politics and foreign policy as well as the role of multilateral institutions play in Asia. During summer 2013, Eli interned at the State Department Bureau of Legislative Affairs where he assisted the Department in its relations with Congress. At UCSD, Eli was the president of its student government and served as a Dean’s Fellow.
Prior to attending UCSD, Eli was a research analyst for a public affairs firm engaged in political vulnerability assessment in state and federal elections across the United States.
While earning dual undergraduate degrees at UC Davis, Eli studied abroad at the University of Hong Kong, where he furthered his desire to work on international issues. As an undergraduate, he served as the financial controller for the Associated Students of UC Davis, the school’s student government.
Eli was born and raised in Milpitas, CA. He has studied Latin and is learning Chinese.
