Kira West currently works for the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) as a researcher on energy transition in the industrial sector, and is based in Amsterdam. She previously worked at the International Energy Agency (IEA), an autonomous agency under the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as an Energy Modeller analyzing the industrial sector. She has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and graduated in 2012 from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, where she specialized in International Development. She is particularly interested in the nexus between energy and international development.

During her studies, she completed a number of internships in government, with the Pittsburgh City Council, the U.S. House of Representatives, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and the International Trade Administration. During her time at Maryland, she also worked as a teaching assistant for several economics and quantitative methods courses, and did research on energy policy and sustainable development. Originally from Philadelphia, Kira speaks French and studied Arabic in Rabat, Morocco, during her undergraduate studies.
