Public Administration & International Relations
Ricky Cieri is pursuing the Master of Public Administration and MA in International Relations dual-degree program at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School.
Originally from a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York, Ricky attended Syracuse University to study International Relations, Modern Foreign Languages, and Political Science. He spent his senior year in São Paulo, Brazil, funded by the NSEP Boren Award to study Portuguese. After graduating summa cum laude in 2017, Ricky went on to work in Madrid, Spain as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in a Spanish high school. He obtained a second teaching position through the U.S. Embassy’s Go American English afterschool language program for students from disadvantaged families. Ricky then returned to Syracuse to work as an International Program Advisor. In this role, he managed study abroad programs and served as campus advisor for the State Department’s Gilman Scholarship. A devoted language learner, Ricky continues to work towards fluency in French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.
At Maxwell, Ricky will develop his knowledge of U.S. foreign policy, diplomacy, and administration of government-funded education programs. After completing his graduate studies, Ricky hopes to work for the State Department. His goal is to expand government-funded programming to ensure that more students are afforded the opportunity to live internationally, especially in countries of critical interest to the U.S.
